Sportway Media Group (SMG) has started an affiliate in New Zealand and appointed Michael Craig as its CEO.
Michael Craig has a double degree from the University of Otago in Physical Education and Management, and is a former professional rugby player. He is also a former employee of IEC in Sports and Lagardère, where he worked for seven years. Michael held a position as a commentator for various sports, such as Swimming, Athletics, International Rugby, Basketball, Tennis, and Volleyball.
Michael then transitioned into the business side, starting as Head of News, Inflight/In-ship for 2,5 years. After working 1,5 years as Director of Live Events and Sport for Global Eagle Entertainment, he moved on to a new opportunity outside of sports media.
For 4 years, Michael has been Principal Consultant for a renowned New Zealand construction recruitment firm. He has collaborated with the nation’s largest construction companies on major projects.
Michael is now looking forward to getting back into the arena of sports media:
“I have had a great couple of years outside sports media, but now I am extremely excited about getting to work in sports media again. I am also thrilled to be joining forces with the likes of Daniel Franck, Jonas Persson, and Johan Hedblom, whom I have learned a great deal from down the years, having been welcomed into IEC in Sports some 13 years ago.”
CEO of Sportway Media Group, Daniel Franck, welcomes Michael Craig with open arms:
“When we got the chance to have Michael join our new venture in New Zealand, we jumped at the opportunity. He has great experience running large projects, both within sports media and outside. We see a tremendous opportunity in New Zealand and we are confident that Michael is the right person to drive this project forward.”
