Helsinki / Stockholm, 10 November 2025 — The Finnish Ice Hockey Association (FIHA) and Sportway Media Group have agreed to extend their long-term partnership up to and including the 2031/32 season. Since 2021, the two organisations have jointly operated Leijonat.tv, the nationwide streaming service that has become an integral part of the Finnish ice hockey ecosystem.
Launched ahead of the 2021/22 season, Leijonat.tv provides comprehensive live and on-demand coverage of Finnish ice hockey outside the top professional tiers. Today the platform delivers more than 50,000 live broadcasts per season from over 200 rinks, powered by Sportway’s automated and AI-assisted production technology.
“We are very excited to continue working with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association to further strengthen the coverage of Finnish ice hockey,” says Daniel Franck, CEO of Sportway Media Group. “Ice hockey has a very strong following in Finland, but we are nonetheless positively surprised by the subscription uptake and engagement around Leijonat.tv.”
“Leijonat.tv has become an increasingly important service for Finnish ice hockey and is today an integrated part of our activities. We look forward to further strengthening the offering in the coming years together with Sportway,” says Sami Kauhanen, CEO of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association.
Franck emphasises that the service has become a natural destination for fans, families, and clubs across the country:
“Leijonat.tv is now a fundamental part of how Finnish ice hockey is consumed. Everyone knows where the games can be found — live and on demand — no matter the age group or level.”
A Core Digital Platform in Finnish Ice Hockey
Since launch, Leijonat.tv has been built around key strategic pillars:
• Accessibility: Live coverage from all non-professional leagues and age groups across Finland, driven by a large-scale automated production network.
• Player & Team Development: With features such as team accounts and follow your player accounts, Leijonat.tv supports talent development by enabling video access, performance analysis, and clip generation.
Today, Sportway is a trusted technology partner to 16 national ice hockey federations, as well as the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), making Finland one of its most advanced and high-volume markets.
Revolutionary AI technology infrastructure built and maintained in Finland, in addition to daily operations, has been executed by Sportway’s local Helsinki office. Over the years, Sportway’s Helsinki team has developed high competence, managing one of the largest live streaming services in Europe in terms of broadcasting volumes.
Strong Digital Growth
Leijonat.tv continues to grow rapidly on social media, with some 30 000 followers on SoMe. Over the past 30 days, the platform has generated 1.4 million views highlighting its expanding digital reach and strong engagement within the Finnish hockey community.
